Ready comprension isn't one of my strong points

I've been jonesin' for one of those Value box things from Walmart, and finally I made it over their the other day to check out the selection. I picked up one without really looking at it. I also picked up a loose pack. I'm still not sure why. I guess I thought I would might have the chance to pull something really awesome from that one retail pack.

In addition to the Mets cards in U&H I really wanted to try and pull these two cards shown below:

I've seen these two really cool horizontal action shot cards on a few of the blogs and wanted them for my collection. I pulled them both of them in the one loose pack as well as another code card and one of these things that don't exist.

I really love the Kimballs, I just don't want to admit they exist or I will feel self-loathing for not owning all of them.

You see, I want to be cool too and get all the nifty new card sets completed. The Kimballs are some of the nicest retro cards that I've seen in a while. Allen and Ginter is a little weird this year and Turkey Red was getting a little old. These minis are a nice change up. But they don't technically exist in my mind right now. Maybe later I'll look for them online.

Last year I had good luck with those value boxes, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it out. I was excited about the one of three refractors and the one pack of bowman chrome. Not much of a fan of Bowman, but I do like some shiny and I haven't bought any chrome this year at all. Sometimes I even get lucky and pull a few extra code cards.

Well, reading comprehension isn't one of my strong suites, as the refractors are all of the same guy. Nothing against Bryce Harper, but I was hoping for another Mantle or Jackie. The Mantle I pulled last year was beautiful, one of the nicest cards that I own. The Harper card is pretty nice too.

Except I'm not really head over heels with this guy. I could've done with a retired legend rather than an up-and-coming guy. But oh well.

I guess I should have looked at the back of the box. It shows three different versions of the same card. Not that I would have noticed that either.

Another thing that kicks me in the balls is that the packs in the value box only have eight cards in them. That sucks.

My first pack of cards yielded this nice relic though. I like the design of these. The cacti really makes the card look different. The cutout for the relic looks nice too.

So at least I pulled a hit. Not much else in the box except for some cool base cards.

Reminds me a little of the Rangers card in 2009.

3 really nice expressions on these cards. I love the reaction of the fan in the first row.

Now I remember why I don't buy much Bowman Chrome. Or any chrome for that matter.

4 cards per pack and two of them will be White Sox.

the other two, people you've probably never heard of. (at least I haven't)

Caminero has a pretty cool name. Arquimedes. like the famous mathmetician Arquimedes of Syracuse. His sig is pretty different too. it looks like BACCA inside a floating muffin top.

Maybe he'll go in the wacky name binder. The wacky name binder and cool shots binder is the same binder for now. Maybe one of these days the collections will get big enough so that they'll each have their own binder.

I didn't do too badly with the inserts. I really like the look of the liqourfractors. The darker background is so much better than the older diamond things.
The Vlad card is cool, but overall I think they're a little ugly.

This card is cool because I used an image for this same card when I was trying to do a sketch of Rickey last year.

My proportions are a little off, but you can tell it's from the same photo. Or at least I think it is. Maybe he was photographed a lot in that same running position.

So basically all of these cards except the cool base cards are for trade. Nobody gets my cool base cards. Let me know if you all see anything that you like. I should have some more inserts and other stuff posted up pretty soon.

Oh also time for my first ever Reyting for the box.

I'm going to rank it about a 3 Reys mainly for the relic in the box. I would give it less if not for that one card. I didn't like the 8 card packs. The rest of my disappointment rests solely with me not being a more careful shopper.

Thanks for reading.

I offered that '73 Hague and '82 Bernazard for the Ollie Brown. Let me know if you'd like something else.

Thanks! Doc
