The lure of the discount blasters part two

I didn't know what to expect with the O-Pee-Chee blaster. I really only have about two or three of these cards. In the first pack I pulled a team card.

I like these cards. I wouldn't mind trying to get more of these if all of the team checklist cards are all like this.

I pulled a few black border cards. They look cool.

Hendrickson always seems to be in this same pose on his cards. I think I have pulled three of his cards and they seem to be about the same. I think he once he posed with two balls. This time only one ball. I guess he's mixing things up a bit. I like the dramatic lighting too.

The backs are a yellowish color and that's about the only tangible difference in this parallel.

This John Maine card is a little more creative with the pitcher posing with a ball pose.

I pulled two cool horizontal cards in this blaster:

A nice portrait...

....and a decent action shot card.

He looks like he's completely alone out there. Actually the fact that there isn't any disembodied legs, feet or elbows in the shot makes for a really clean photo.

I guess they didn't do all the team checklist cards as stadium shots.

That's okay too. The disembodied head thing is a nice retro touch.

Cool rookie card. I like the "rookie" banner and the interesting angle of the photo.

This pack only had one damaged card, unfortunately it's one of the nicest cards in the box. He doesn't look like he's 40 years old in this card. Pretty youthful looking guy. Keiichi currently plays for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan.

I have a big fixation regarding cards with a stadium scoreboard in the background. I have a few binder pages in the "Random Binder" with my scoreboards in the background cards. I probably need to trim those down a little. This is one of the cards that's definitely staying though. This ranks right up with the 1992 Stadium Card of Anthony Young that I blogged about here. (It's down at the bottom of the page.)

This was a big highlight for me.

This is one of the insert cards commemorating the new Yankee and Mets stadiums. It's numbered NY-19. The New York skyline on the front and back of the card is cool.

Lastly two of those 20th anniversary cards.

Did anyone cut out the two cards featured on the side of the box?

I did. Turned out pretty good. I wanted to pull the Jeter card as it's a cool action shot of a player that I like. I didn't pull one, but this is just as good though.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for sharing. Is there a back to the cards you cut out? Well, yes, there's a back, but is there text, etc?

No, no text on the back. It's actually where the blaster is glued together so you have to be careful not to rip the "back" of the card when pulling the blaster apart to cut out the cards. Their were other blasters that had Chase Utley. I couldn't remember the other player.

I think 2009 OPC is a really nice set.

I agree Brian, I'm sort of glad It's available now. Earlier I probably wouldn't have noticed it with all the other stuff out there.
